From IGN:
Konami of Europe today offered more details on the Castlevania title in development for the Nintendo DS. Given the franchise's success on the GBA, it's no surprise the company is bringing the action to Nintendo's latest handheld, but until now, we didn't have much information.
The game takes place in the year 2036, one year after Aria of Sorrow. As Soma Cruz, you'll have to stop a dark cult from resurrecting its evil master, Dracula. To put an end to the plan, Cruz will infiltrate a towering replica of Dracula's castle and fight the baddies within.
The DS version of Castlevania, which has yet to receive an official title, will feature the classic trademarks of the series, such as collectable power-ups enabling you to become more bad-ass as the game goes on. This time, however, Konami is using the DS's unique features. Certain portals, for instance, will require touch-screen input to open. Even more interesting, players can trade power-ups with each other using the DS's wireless connectivity.
One of the two screenshots just released reveals that the second DS screen will feature an in-game map, though just what else Konami has in store we don't yet know.
Castlevania on the DS is being developed by Koji Igarashi and the team behind Aria of Sorrow. The game is set for autumn 2005 release in Europe. We'll be back with more details, including a North American release time, as soon as information comes in.
