I just got this in the mail the other day, and after 2 days of playing, i have to say, this game really has impressed me. The story is alot better than i was expecting. you play as Zack, someone who played a fair part in FF7 in that not in the game yet sorta important sorta way. They really fleshed the character out, and while he is a bit immature and goofy, he's very likeable. I really like how things fit in with some things mentioned in FF7. I haven't played FF7 in a while, but there are still alot of parts where i've been like "So thats how that happened!"
the game also introduces two new main characters, Genesis and Angeal, Genesis is your basic Sephy wannabe androgynous baddy. he has some depth and interesting quirks, like being very into the play Loveless, but is sorta your basic evil guy... but Angeal is a very interesting character, who carries the buster sword.... and Sephy is... well... not Sephy... but is... basically what you expect him to be like before he snaps... sorta a nice guy but not...
As for the gameplay, its very kingdom hearts-y. it takes a little to get used to it, but after you get used to it, its enjoyable. One problem is there sometimes is a few too many battles you get into. and there are like 300 sidequests you can go on to get new stuff. nice thing is they only take a few minutes to do, so you can pick up and play while on the go.
Bottom line is I sorta didn't want to like this game... the whole FF7 spinoff thing really annoyed me, but this is a game i think FF7 fans should play. Now time to hop back into it!
