Man, I played around with this thing at EB today and I have to say that Im hooked. It is pretty friggin' cool and versatile. It was running a demo of Metroid Prime: Hunters and boy was it good-looking. The control scheme can be changed, but the look function was assigned to the pen on the bottom screen along with the one-touch weapon changes and morph ball. That same screen also visually displayed the map and a "double-click" with the pen on it makes you jump. The shoulder button fired the weapon while the D-Pad and/or the A-B-X-Y button combo controlled forward/back plus strafe movements. Add to this the fact of being able to play online while close to a wireless network connection and you'd be pretty much sold. The games are $30 and get this- the Nintendo reps will come and add/replace demos to the store's DS that each owner may visit to download onto his/her machine. Also chat rooms and various little things like GBA compatibilty and long battery life(same as GBA SP) make it a tempting buy. I still think I'll wait until the PSP emerges as I don't wanna buy the first shiny thing the showroom, but I'll admit it- I'm a DS fan already.

Gamespot just made a huge, HUGE section for the DS.. ALready with reviews of the launch titles... And they put new system specs that i never saw before.. One of the main things is the thumbpad.. Which i read about but never saw... Its a little strap that you put on your thumb with a little plastic thing on it, that lets you use the touch screen without the stylus... This solves the problem of playing metroid using the stylus and holding the system at the same time... Heres a picture of it : Also, the carts are WAY smaller than I expected... Im gonna lose the damn things =-p Gamespot also commented on the wireless network capabilities.. "The Nintendo DS features built-in wireless connectivity with support for 802.11 and a "proprietary communication protocol." Up to 16 players can connect to a single local network. Nintendo guarantees a wireless range of 30-100 feet, but we could get two systems to connect from much farther away, as long as the two systems stayed within sight of each other. Obstacles such as walls reduced the wireless range of the DS to Nintendo's minimum 30-foot claim, however. " Another cool thing with the wireless network: "One useful networking function that we have been able to test is the DS Download feature that allows multiple Nintendo DS players to play a multiplayer game with only a single game card. For example, a system with Super Mario 64 DS can host a multiplayer game, and DS units in the area can download the necessary data from the host and join the festivities. Download times average 30 seconds to a minute and a half depending on the game. " Wireless = WEE! Also, they included a list of everything it comes with.. Which answers one of God-Likes questions he had the other night: "The Nintendo DS retail package includes everything you need to start playing: the Nintendo DS system, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, an AC adapter, an extra stylus, a wrist strap with a built-in thumbpad, and a Metroid Prime: Hunters First Hunt demo game card... ...(However, if you do lose your AC adapter, you can use the GBA power adapter in a pinch.)" Theres not too much greatness with the launch titles though... Except for Mario and the Metroid demo... Mario 64 got an 8.4, which seems good enough... Im definitely getting this system and Mario 64 for happy christmas...

I happened to stumble upon some DS-cessories by scanning a few forums here and there. Hopefully theses will make it to U.S. shores, for they are pretty damned neat...

From Nintendo's Japanese website comes this lil' tidbit of info:
12/01/2004- Today Nintendo updated its complete Nintendo DS games list, adding thre notable games.
Most significantly, Namco's Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos are headed to Nintendo's new handheld. The Xenosaga saga has a firm foundation overseas on the PlayStation 2, and Baten Kaitos was just released for the GameCube in North America.

I'm hearing reports of many DS's either shorting out or powering down unpredictibly resulting in thousands of returns to local stores. Somehow, it still remains the "hot" holiday item...

Yeah, I've had my DS for a while now, and since I have always been a fan of the Advanced Wars Series, I picked up the latest game in the set.
With only one game, up to 3 or more (I think its up to six, but I could be wrong) can play by download onto another DS. On top of this, if everybody has a DS version of the game you can command two CO's at the same time and do battle on two different maps at the same time. Its sweet, and with the new stealth fighters and bombs in the game its rediculously fun. Add this with the fact that you can unlock older CO's from the older GBAdvance Advance Wars 2 game, and you will find that keeping your older games actually rewards you in the end.
One game I am REALLy looking foward to is the Metroid Prime Hunters game coming out for the DS. Not only is that multiplayer, but you get to choose from 7 different Bounty hunters in the game for a first person shooter competition.
And because of the Wireless compatability of the game they are making plans to make it so you can play over a wireless connection with other people over the world.
As for the DS itself I also use it for my alarm clock, calender, and if there is another person who has a DS I can chat with them using the DS as well. The touch screen is really innovative and makes for some very precise gaming. Its truely sweet.

I bought my wife a pink DS(so she couldn't argue that it was really for me) and New Super Maio Brs. for Christmas. Man- how the hell could I not have bought one of these yet!!?? It's incredible. What a neat little thing. I always thought that handhelds were a waste of time, but Nintendo sure proved me wrong. I didn't think she'd even like it, but then she barely answered me the rest of the day- all I heard was warp pipe sounds... >_<

I may end up buying another one for myself- just to match my Wii(lol). But seriously, I wouldn't mind having one now that I see how cool it indeed is. You do realize that the Wii is going to end up becoming a Virtual Console DS download station with free demos and such. I can't wait for that. Nintendo has me so excited that it's like I'm a kid again...
