Most of my questions deal mostly with stupid stuff, but the non-linear world we find ourselves in, leaves plenty of room to get started off in the wrong direction. The in-game newbie guide has helped immensely; the quests within the starter village are pretty straight forward; and now, before I proceed much farther I thought I'd check with the experts and verify what I should be concentrating on most. Bio: Morthen (mor=Bold or Brave; then=Earth) level: 20 class: dwarf-fighter-artisan Morthen has spent most of his time doing the quests acquired in the Dwarven Village. He has completed all the available quests there, except one level 30. These were all very close to home; the last few, he traveled to a few other villages and consequently was able to make his first class change. He has learned a few skills and collected many inventory hogs. Along the way, he keeps finding 'recipes' to craft items. Does he need to put them in a book? Do they remain in inventory? Does he need to learn them or is that covered by the 'CRAFTing' skills? I figure every good guild needs a crafter and that is where I am trying to go with this character. It has been a long, long time since my NeverWinterNights mining and crafting days so any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Should I be questing or finding spots to level-up? What about fishing and getting a pet? In addition to learning how to manage my inventory, I need to know IF and WHEN I should upgrade my armor and weapon choices. (so far i've only used SHADOW SWORD from newbie tickets) If all those queries weren't stupid enough, how about these? How does the FRIEND's LIST work? How can I tell when you guys are online? Oh, and i accidently dropped a new skill on top of my SIT/STAND skill and can't seem to re-locate it... is this a skill i need to REST? I was thinking MORTHEN could eventually be shared by everyone for crafting items. Right now, I wanna get out there and kill monsters with you guys... hmmm, methinks I'll start a ranger/archer today. I realize alot of this can be discussed in-game... but I wanted to get it somewhere to reference for when I get my MF'n headset back.

well, i know jack about the crafting stuff, but i can help you out with some of the other q's
1 nows the time to start buying equipment, cause you cant get the newbie weps after 20. and at lvl 20 you can use d-grade equipment, so you should head to aden to check the selection of d grade weps and armor
2 there is a friends list with the server software being used, but it isn't quite whats in the official yet. but when someone is online type /friendinvite nameofperson and /friendlist to see the list. you can use macros to make this a bit easier.
3 on the bottom right panel (default placement) there should be a icon with a hand called actions. click it and it'll open an action window, in the top section i believe is the sit/stand button, just drag and drop it to your bar. the rest action is kinda weird. when you use it, you auto sit, but you can't press it again to stand, so you'll either need to use the sit/stand or type /stand
4 i got 3 guys right now, one 39, one 20, and one 6, so i can play with lowbies. there is a sorta cap on the lvl of characters you can party with and still get exp. so hopefully i'll find you online and we can adventure!

Fishing and getting a pet is pretty much just for fun. There are some really neat things you can do with these though. You can fish up things that people use for what's called 'common craft'. It's the only thing other players can craft, seeing as they can't be artisans. They're able to make potions and stuff from there. Pet's are awesome fun. But they cost a decent chunk of change as well. You have to keep them fed and at least near you to get xp for them to get stronger as well. Regardless the pet you choose (I just know you're going with the dragon ) Once you help your pet get to level 55 it can 'evolve'. When this happens, in the Dragons case, you can mount the bad-boy! Fast as hell, and a good chance that you can get him to fly later on! When it comes to recipes, The one's you want to learn you just double-click to 'use' them and you will be prompted to say weather or not you want it added to your recipes. Upon saying yes, the recipe item in your inventory will disappear. Keep in mind that you are limited in how many recipes you can know. While the previous (retail) amount was only 50 recipes, I upped that to 100. And maybe even more, depending on your input. You'll have to do some 'googling' on the permanency of these recipes in your book, once added. I might recall that they're there for good, once learned. Or you may be able to take them out of your book in favor for another. I can't recall exactly which. When it comes to what you should be doing now. Have fun! And go level some for sure. The only way that Dwarves can learn better recipes, is to get to the point where they can use that grade. Now that you are 20, you can learn D-Grade recipes. These even include the best gear found in the Aden shops. And, not to mention, D-Grade soul shots at cost! Which reminds me I've been saving 'D' and 'C' grade recipes for you. I just need to find ya' next time you're online. On top of all the Dwarf crafty awesomeness they're also a fun fighter class. And are great to have in a party. You can become either a 'poler' or a 1h/shield type. (Usually with a hammer) The 1h/shield Dwarf is actually a damn decent tank, and the poler specializes in hitting all the enemies in front of him and to his sides, with each swing. Either way is fine to go. Just depends on what you want your group mechanic/playstyle to be. I'll look for you when I'm in game next and add you to my friends list. Hope you get you mic back soon bruddah!

In an effort to become a little more familiar with 'crafting' and 'recipes' and 'patterns' and 'materials'... I surfed around for a bit and found this very helpful site... lineage2.stratics.com/During a few quests, I've had trouble locating some of the NPC's... very frustrating when you're just getting started; but Stratics offers a nice quest section with summaries, pictures, walkthroughs etc... I can also pull up their copy of the world map on my Mac while I'm playing on my laptop. The best thing I've found though is the way you can link to various towns, villages, and hunting areas and see the available quests listed with the levels of the monsters you'll be facing. Now I have a much better sense of direction, with much less guess-work and leg-work.

Hey yunz guys! Just kinda checking in to share a little L2 xp. It doesn't seem like that long ago when "Morthen" was still running around (funny with little dwarven legs) and wondering how to best utilize his talents. I'm quite proud to announce he is now RIDING around on his pet, Kirli the Strider... and yep, just as I enchanted all my C-grade gear up to level 9, its time to move on to B-grade.
FYI, B-grade gear can be found in Giran luxory shop. Wish I had known a few days ago... went on teleport binge, visiting each town's armor and weapon shops... costly little adventure I'll tell ya.
Currently, I'm attempting to find the NPC with 'Ancient Book' of Divine Inspiration so I can buy it to LEARN the skill. This is the first time I've had any trouble locating the manuals needed to learn certain skills; the NPC is usually in each town's temple... but the ANCIENT BOOK is throwing me off. I seem to recall, okay I'm lying, I don't seem to recall at all, an early quest that dealt with some NPC and Ancient books. (real early, the area had a lighthouse quest too... and this NPC had little goblins running around in the room with him and a Newbie helper... ring any bells) Tracking this Ancient Book dealer dude down is driving me nuts... we Dwarves don't get too many buffing skills so of course I gotta learn this one... allows you to accept more buffs.
UPDATE: I found the NPC I needed to get the Ancient Book 'Divine Inspiration'. It wasn't a spellbook seller after all. Once you reach level 52 (at least Dwarven>Warsmith) the skill trainer will start offering a few skills requiring spellbooks, and, as in this case, you'll need to buy an Ancient Book of Skill'X'. Trust me, the NPC spellbook sellers don't deal with the Ancient Books... neither do Mystic Clans, Magic dealers, Luxory Shop Merchants and as far as I can tell, only the "Black Marketeer of Mammon" can sell you what you need, so you can go learn your new skill. I found this dude in Giran (bottom of steps south of central chamber) but I think I've seen him in other towns and villages too. I hope this helps someone else down the road...
... and thanx Miriam for all the hunting we've been doing lately. I'm finding that when i'm in a party with someone else, they get some mighty fine drops from normal mobs. I read that somewhere about dwarves... probably because we can crush certain grade gear into crystals. I can see where a large community of players could really keep a crafter busy (and rich)... I need crystals to craft the high-end weapons and armor... I need tons of good drops to crystalize to do that... also, Morthen can summon various GOLEMS... Mechanic golem, has long ranged cannons; Seige golem for seiges, doh; there are some others too, but the one that intrigues me... A Golem that emulates an in the field NPC Merchant/Trader. (DeFiler, I know if you just read that, you are chubbin' up) Um, what was my point here, oh yeah, of course all these golems run on crystals... lots of them... not very conducive to a small economy.
Anyways, my archer, Erowyn is getting close to 2nd class transfer, my healer, Elixir isn't far behind and Dragonarse, is lagging along at lvl 23 and can't wait to get his set of Elven long swords set up for dual-wielding.
If any of you guys needs a weapon or armor crafted, let me know and I'll try to gather the recipe and materials... finding out where to get certain materials seems to be the snag... but once we find the correct zones though, look out huh, Jeremy?
I'm thinking we're gonna need bunches of B-grade crystals and even more C-grade to BUY B-grade gear... so crafting might be the best route at this point... I'm anxious to see what some of the RAIDs will yield...

Jeremy and I were chatting the other day about fishing. He scared me away from even trying when he implied it was really REALLY hard. I mean c'mon, if he didn't fair very well, what chance would I have?
I'm certainly not gloating (okay, maybe just a tad). I think we were simply overlooking a few key factors. So here's my little quickie guide to fishing.
1) You must use fishing gear (rod, bait and fishing shots) that equals your current weapon/armor grade. There is a huge penalty if not. My B-grade gear was expensive but worth it.
2) Fishing Expertise level should match both Reeling and Pumping skill levels. Once again, penalty if not all the same. I started at Level 12 in all 3 skills. Speak to Fish-dudes in grocery stores to level up. No SP required, adena will do the trick.
3) Your fishing skill levels determines the color of fish you will catch. (for example at lvl 12 i caught mostly yellow fish)
4) If you need to catch a different colored fish than the ones that match your current skill level, purchase a potion that buffs you to be able to fish at other levels. The potion colors match the fish colors. There is also a potion to remove the buff. (another example, I bought a blue potion and caught blue fish
5) Don't get too comfortable, every once in a while, you'll hook a monster and need to switch to weapon and fight.
6) Set a skill bar dedicated to fishing skills; make sure to add your melee weapon too. I keep my melee bar up too... but i toggle the fishing bar to bottom (so i can use F-1 F-2 etc)
7) I broke down most of my catches for fish oil, scales, bones and common craft recipes. Then I traded to fish guild for "Proof of Caught Fish". 2000 proofs allowed me to get skill to expand my dwarven recipe book. You can expand your inventory slots, trade window slots, Storage and Freight slots too.
Go get 'em J, its quite fun and i love the animation when you cast and hit your Fish-shot at the precise moment.

Wow. Very intuitive, nice. I haven't been around the L2 universe here in quite a while it seems. B-grade gear!? Grats! Hop on TS one of these nights and fill me in damnit! (lol) I seems to be on TS every night now, btw.
I hope all are still enjoying their experiences in L2. Please let me know if I've missed any thing. Gear sets, etc... I haven't done much past C. But hopefully, by now, the experience requires a little more dedication, not too much mind you.

hey hey hey, I was beginning to wonder if anyone passed through here anymore. I understand many of you have gone to the darkside and are prolly brainwashed by now. Just kidding of course, cuz if my machine could run WOW, I'd be right there with yunz guyz.
L2 has captured me. Even knowing no one else is playing, which means there is NO community, I can't stop exploring the many facets in this game. Dyes, tatoos, enchantments, enhancements (yeah, there's a difference), lifestones, crystals... there are sooooo many ways to upgrade your gear... and I'm just getting introduced to some of it. I just recently mastered fishing and found out it is kind of important, in that now I can expand inventory slots and dwarven crafting recipe book slots. Soon I hope to be crafting some top of the line potions... only available to those that catch fish and get the right recipes and mats to break off from the spoils.
I guess I'm reaching a point though where its gonna be rough to progress without a party. It seems that B-grade gear is quite elusive because so far I haven't been very lucky obtaining the needed B-crystals to purchase armor and weapon. From now on, instead of buying certain items, you trade a combo of B and C grade crystals.
So here's my deal; right now MORTHEN, the Warsmith, is almost level 55; and I'm kinda proud to say, he's done all that without joining in any dungeon runs or raids. Lately i've been killing mobs that are 10-12 lvls higher but i'm still using C-grade gear. Hopefully, I'll get lucky and find somewhere to hunt where I might get some B-grade drops but I think RAIDs, etc. is the only way to get those.
...and I don't even want to get started on my dream of flying on the back of my pet dragon. I guess you need to do the CLAN thing in order to achieve this feat. But, heh, as long as I can run around and explore, and stay alive, I'm gonna keep plugging along... still so much to see and do.
L2 was, and is, the greatest X-mas gift ever! The gift that keeps on giving.

That's good to hear! I haven't had a chance to implement easier ways of getting the B-Grade gear yet. I honestly didn't think that any one would be there so fast! We should sit down and figure out some events/ways to get B-Grade gear in to people hands. Also, I know that Jeremy was brainstorming on the whole castle/clan thing, we'll have to get him in on it too. Hopefully I'll see a response here soon. I'm almost always on TS these days; although lately, it's been pretty late. But look me up! I'm bound to log in eventually.

I'll try to find you on TS Saturday night (hopefully) I'm thinking our best plan right now is to try some raids... ... lol, and i'm not 100% sure what that really means. Can raids occur in a dungeon? I've run across various raid mobs in almost every hunting zone... ... I wonder if those raid bosses will drop what we're looking for. Are castle assaults considered raids? I know next to nothing about Castles... ... but I'll try to do some research today. oh and server is still down as of noon, 3/28
