Gather round and hear a tale of my love and hate for Microsoft's system. Its full of magic and wonder, joy and sadness... Lots of fun... Here we go..
I went out and bought a 360 a couple nights ago. I've been aching to play Rock Band, and the PS2 version is sold out for a loong time, plus some of the modes are scaled back versions. So I was like fuck it...
I went to gamestop and bought a used 360, the rock band bundle, an extra guitar, and a crazy pelican fan that also has component, vga, optical, and all kinds of crazy shits on the back of it. The chick that rang all my shit up was kinda cute and interesting.
Got it home and went straight to my friends apartment and started setting shit up... I realized I forgot to get a hard drive or memory card, so I went to walmart to find one. For some reason walmart doesnt sell the little memory cards, but I was able to buy one at hollywood video for 30 bucks..
Got a guitar and the normal controller out and turned on the 360.. Watched the rock band intro that was really wacky, and then i poked through menus for a bit until the system locked up... I was like wha? Thats ghey. Restarted the system.. Did the same thing again.. And again... And again...
I was pissed so I called gamestop and asked them how late they were open. Flew down the highway and got there 20 minutes before they were closing. I told the cute chick my problem and she said she was sorry, and that the used systems come from gamestops warehouse sealed, so they dont have any control over them. She got me a new one out of the back and wished me luck.
Got back to my friends apartment and turned it on. Same shit. It keeps locking up in the menus. Tried to restart it and I got the red ring of death that everyone has probably read about. Fucking bullshit.
I called gamestop and told them. The dude told me that they were closed, and wouldnt be open until 9am. Me and my friend were like ok, were going at 9am. But we didnt get to sleep until around 6 because of drunken friends, and we slept in until 12.
Finally got back to gamestop and my cute chick was there again. She was like "another bad one?" And I was like yep... "Red ring of death?" "Yep... "
She said that was their last one, but they had some elite and halo editions for a little more. She brought out a halo edition and I had her take it out and test it with my game before I bought it. It worked. Woo. It was 20 dollars more, but now I have a system that actually works. And it does look kinda cool in person even though I hate halo. Also has an hdmi port on the back, BUT my fan doesnt fit because of that. Im thinking about asking if I can return it, since it wasnt really my fault that I got stuck with it.
After getting home around 4pm and setting up rock band, we played for 12 straight hours without any lock ups or glitches. And that was a great 12 hours.
Rock Band will probably be my game of the year. Mario Galaxy was great. But this is truly amazing. 95% of the songs are pretty crappy, but you can always find something fun to play. If you get bored playing guitar you can try the bass line, or switch to drums, or even sing. My social anxiety wont allow me to sing in front of other humans, but my friends were loving it.
The drums are so good. Its just like playing an electronic drumset. You get a workout that even wii sports cant replicate. Fully sweaty with a tired leg + arms.
I have to be crazy for buying a system for a game. But this is so much more than a normal game. My mom told me I was stupid when I told her I was going to do it, and that its a waste of money. But I dont think it is. Theres still Katamari, Dead Rising, Assassins Creed, and so much more. But At the moment I'm broke, so I have to just keep playing rock band for days and days, which I have no problem with.
I cant wait to get back to my friends apartment tonight and continue playing.
